Ones to Watch: Switched at Birth

s@b

Imagine if one day you found out that your whole life was meant for someone else, that everything that you had experienced should have been experienced by a completely different person. This is exactly what happens to the Kennish and Vasquez families when they discover that they were switched at birth. The show follows the struggles of the newly combined Kennish-Vasquez clan as they struggle to get to know each other and co-parent their teenage daughters. Add to this the fact that Daphne is deaf due to having meningitis as a baby, the whole family must learn how to communicate all over again.

This show is so addictive and is great for everyone. The actors use real ASL and most of the show is captioned so it has really been embraced by the deaf community across America. Most of the actors that play deaf characters are also deaf or hard of hearing in real life, and are proving to be real role models for other deaf teens.

But even if you aren’t deaf or know about sign language, the story lines in this show are amazing. Comprising teen love, parenting, art, politics, writing and everything in between there is something in Switched at Birth for everyone. The main cast includes Lucas Grabeel, Vanessa Marano and Lea Thompson and Marlee Matlin is a regular guest star. This is definitely another great show from ABC Family.
